Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, has asked the club to give transfer target Jadon Sancho the number 7 shirt.
The iconic shirt has previously been worn by Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham and Eric Cantona.
United have been heavily linked with a summer move for Borussia Dortmund winger Sancho, but the German club is demanding in excess of £100million.
Sancho has been in fine form in the Bundesliga this season, scoring 14 times and providing 16 assists.
He is believed to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top target.
When asked if he would give Sancho the iconic number despite recent wearers of it all flopping, Ferdinand told 606 Savage Social: “Yes, I would, he’s that type of character.
“He’s got an arrogance about him, it’s what you want on a football pitch, they’d embrace that.
“So yes, I’d give it to him and put that pressure right on his shoulders!”
