Lucas Torreira has handed Arsenal a huge injury boost as the Gunners look to make a late push for European qualification – by confirming he has returned to training on his official Instagram account.
The 24-year-old limped off at Fratton Park before the global health crisis with a fractured ankle during an FA Cup clash against Portsmouth. He has since been missing, failing to return to training for five months.
The Gunners are suffering with a number of injuries at the moment, though many are believed to be on the verge of returning to action soon.
£26million (BBC) signing Torreira could be in line to play in the coming days.
Arsenal gave an injury update on July 19, claiming Torreira could be out for another three weeks but ahead of schedule, Torreira is back in training.
Whether Wednesday’s clash against Norwich is too soon, remains to be seen.
TBR’s view – Torreira returning is crucial timing
Arsenal have just returned to a bit of form, picking up two wins in two thanks to strong performances against Southampton and Sheffield United in the FA Cup.
But with Matteo Guendouzi sidelined due to poor discipline and Granit Xhaka in and out of the physio room, having another body in the middle of the park will be a relief for Mikel Arteta.
Sitting in tenth place and nine behind Manchester United, the Gunners really need to get their skates on if they are to break back into the top six. But Torreira’s return will certainly help.
